WASHINGTON, D.C.––Black people from throughout the Unites States will descend on Washington D.C. for a historic two-day Black People’s Convention and defiantly declare independence from the predatory Democratic and Republican parties on November 5th and 6th.
This powerful convention themed, “The National Black Political Agenda for Self-Determination” will be held by the Black Is Back Coalition for Social Justice, Peace and Reparations two days prior to the U.S. elections, and will illustrate the heights which the struggle for African liberation has reached.
We will say, “damn the Republican and the Democratic parties” and their white agendas and put forth our own agenda for black self-determination and black power.
This black people’s convention will begin with our annual march on the white house and rally at Malcolm X Park at 9 a.m.
The second day of our Convention will be held at Howard University’s Blackburn Center at 9 a.m. and will consist of a dynamic program with powerful panel discussions on Black Community Control of the Police.
We will also discuss our National Black Political Agenda for Self-Determination Declaration and 19 points.
A keynote political address will be given by Omali Yeshitela, Chairman of the Black is Back. Glen Ford of the Black Agenda Report, and steering committee member of the BIB, will also present.
Setting the Movement on track: Building for self-determination
Our Convention is particularly important to provide political direction to the African community during the circus known as the 2016 U.S. presidential election season.
Africans have no confidence in the U.S. government and are being corralled into supporting a two-party system where neither ruling class party has an interest in the liberation and self-determination of our people.
Black people are being pushed by a fear-mongering Democratic party to vote for a lying, murderous Hillary Clinton.
We are also being asked by Trump, “What else do you have to lose?” in his efforts to secure the black vote.
We are clear that our convention comes at a critically auspicious time during this period of strong African resistance, which was sparked by the police murder of Mike Brown and the resulting uprising of the African working class youth in Ferguson in 2014.
It is evident that the white ruling class and its parasitic capitalist economic system–are in a state of crisis. Africans and other oppressed groups in the U.S. and worldwide are fighting back and taking back our resources which have been stolen by white power.
We Africans especially have seen the brutal effects of colonialism on our communities as the U.S. government imprisoned us by the millions after neutralizing the Black Power Movement of the ‘60s.
The countless murders of Africans by cops and white civilians are also clear examples of the State attacks on our people.
Black political agenda consolidated
The preparation that went into this National Black Political Agenda Declaration and 19-points was tedious and methodical because our freedom depends on it.
The Black Is Back Coalition––an organization of organizations working together under 7 Principles of Unity––drafted the Declaration and 19-Point Agenda which was ratified during the Coalition’s Preparatory Conference in Philadelphia, PA on August 14 and August 15, 2016.
These 19 points speak to key contradictions facing the black community and include demands regarding the defense of black women, the ending of mass incarceration and the assault on black families. The complete declaration was presented in The Burning Spear’s August issue and can be located on the Blackisbackcoalition.org.
State conventions for the National Black Political Agenda are being held across the U.S. throughout October to build momentum and organize our people towards the National Convention.
The Coalition is calling for every black organization in the country to unite with this Agenda and to forward it in their respective areas.
Self-determination is key
The strategy of the Coalition allows its member organizations to expand their reach and scope collectively in ways that no single organization can, yet each organization maintains its autonomy and independence.
We understand that our disparities are the result of Africans being shut out of our own self-determination.
The Coalition recognizes the need for Africans to totally control our own lives in every aspect. This includes: economics, health, defense, etc. The Coalition has several working groups which work to overturn these issues facing our community.
We cannot afford another four years of unchallenged colonial occupation of our oppressed and exploited communities. We cannot afford four more years of blind allegiance to the Democratic party.
It is the same Democratic party that gave us the imperialist thug Barack Hussein Obama who has done nothing to end the terror faced by Africans and is responsible for more military strikes on the continent of Africa than any other U.S. president.
It was the democrat William H. Clinton with the political support of his wife Hillary that signed the 1994 Crime Bill which put hundreds of killer cops in our communities.
The late revolutionary Malcolm X said that a democrat is nothing but a “dixiecrat.” Those words are as true today as they were decades ago when he said them.
The Coalition calls on our African sisters and brothers to read and unite with the Black Political Agenda and share it with your broader community. This is critical.

And finally, we urge the African community to come out to your two-day black people’s convention. The Republican and Democratic parties had their conventions, now its our time!
