Project Thuthukani garden provides nutrition for the Msogwaba community

MBOMBELA, SOUTH AFRICA (OCCUPIED AZANIA)–Project Thuthukani is an International People’s Democratic Uhuru Movement-South Africa (InPDUM-South Africa) non-profit organization for organizing the community for self-determination and economic development in South Africa. The most outstanding of our projects is the garden in Msogwaba in Mpumalanga province.

This agricultural program we have developed has produced different crops both for generating an income for the InPDUM Msogwaba branch and also to feed children in the community.

This past April 8 weekend was proof that Africa can feed itself through the soil beneath our feet. Together with comrades of my branch, we provided lunch to almost 30 kids that are part of the Garvey Youth Brigade being developed to either inherit the revolutionary struggle or the fruits of its labor.

Though this time we only had lunch without playing any games like the previous Uhuru Children’s Fun Day, it was nevertheless an exciting moment for the children. The children got the opportunity to call out the slogans of the Uhuru Movement and learn about food production.

Children were taken to the garden to be taught and shown where the food that they would be eating later that day was coming from.

The day started by gathering wood for cooking the meal then the children arrived and they introduced themselves on mic. This builds confidence and leadership skills for the kids.

We took the children to the garden to teach and show them where the food that they would be eating later that day was coming from. The aim was for them to see how vegetables are produced through our own land and labor.

We closed the lunch with African chants such as “Black Power, Black Women! Chairman! Omali! One Africa! One Nation!” and so on—all of which was led by the Garvey Youth.

Land is vital to the independence of African people. Considering that 72 percent of agricultural land in Occupied Azania is officially in the hands of colonizers, we find it necessary to have initiatives that remind our people about the importance of land.

This project ensures that we get access to our land so we can feed and clothe ourselves. It also makes sure we can involve the kids more in the project.

The aim is to establish the Uhuru Farm in Mpumalanga where we can go door to door selling the vegetables together with the children and be able to provide lunch every weekend as a start. In the future, we should be able to cater for the community daily.

This small land can still be useful if we can build a greenhouse so that we can make sure the crops are not eaten by birds. The success of this initiative will be seen in the eradication of food insecurity in our community through increased land ownership and productivity by Africans for Africans.

Parents and N2U Volunteers are key to this whole project and victories we had on this day.

With more support we can achieve more for the African Nation!
