On October 6, 2017, the United States’ political police, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) released a document titled “Black Identity Extremists Likely Motivated to Target Law Enforcement Officers.”
The document, dated August 3, 2017, states that the creation of this category of “Black Identity Extremists (BIE)” came about as a response to the resistance that took place after the police murder of 18-year-old Michael ‘Mike’ Brown Jr., on August 9, 2014 and other uprisings thereafter.
According to the FBI, “it is very likely that Black Identity Extremist perceptions of police brutality against ‘African-Americans’ spurred an increase in premeditated, retaliatory lethal violence against law enforcement and will very likely serve as justification for such violence.”
The document also defines BIE as “individuals who seek, wholly or in part, through unlawful acts of force or violence, in response to perceived racism and injustice in American society and some do so in furtherance of establishing a separate black homeland or autonomous black social institutions, communities, or governing organizations within the United States.”
Not only does the FBI minimize the police murder of African people—a tool of oppression used by the State—to just ‘perception,’ they are classifying our righteous fight for freedom as acts of domestic terrorism.
African people pose no threat to imperialism, so long as we remain complacent in our oppression, but we become targets the moment we choose to fight back.
BIE’s since the 60s
The FBI documents that “BIE violence peaked in the 1960s…”, long before the actual term came about.
It does not take much to figure out that this is a reboot of the counterinsurgency program of the 1960s, when African organizations and leaders were characterized as “black nationalist hate groups.”
The Counterintelligence Program (COINTELPRO) waged a serious war against the African community and the Black Revolution of the 1960s.
The United States government used every weapon they could to crush the Black Liberation Movement.
Drugs were pushed into our communities—creating an illegal drug economy, while also debilitating forces who could have been, or once were, fierce revolutionaries—and our organizations were infiltrated.
The two combined, led to many political prisoners in addition to many revolutionaries having to go underground, out of the country and in to exile.
The greatest testament of the how detrimental COINTELPRO was to the revolution is the death of our leaders—such as Malcolm X and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who were both murdered by the U.S. government—and the memory of revolution.
Where there’s a program, there’s a plan
The danger of being labeled as a “Black Identity Extremist” lies in the fact that it is a blanket term and almost any black person can fit into this category, regardless of how militant or non-militant their politic may be.
The mere fact that we disunite with a country that came into existence as a result of committing the single worst crime ever against humanity—the attack on Africa and the enslavement of African people—and sustains itself by the ongoing oppression of African people, is seen as ‘extreme’ and speaks volumes about the United States government.
It’s needless to say that white nationalist groups like the Ku Klux Klan or the average college fraternity are not labeled as “White Identity Extremists”, or even ”white nationalist hate groups”.
In fact, the FBI’s labeling of African people as BIE’s will serve as nothing less than fuel for their fire as they volunteer to carry out the will of the State against us.
No compromise, no surrender
It is apparent that the release of this document signifies that the State will intensify their heinous treatment of African people—as seen in the FBI arrest of Guerilla Mainframe member Rakem Balogun, who was charged for being a “Black Identity Extremist.”
We cannot, however, allow this to demoralize us! We have to see it as the counterinsurgency that it is.
In fact, it is very possible that this document was released so that we could destabilize ourselves in fear of what they might do to us—as if murdering and leaving us to rot on 100-degree asphalt in the middle of the summer is not bad enough.
This is a similar tactic to when the U.S. government would signal their intervention in conference calls held by political activists in the 1960s by hanging up the phone and making their ‘clicks’ be heard as a reminder that they were watching and listening.
I am a Black Identity Extremist
The new BIE documentation is nothing more than a diary entry of the FBI’s greatest fear—African people uniting to take our power back and overturn our colonial oppression!
It is clear that with each passing day, African people are coming to the conclusion that there is no other solution than revolution to attain freedom and independence in our lifetime!
The 14-Point Platform of the African People’s Socialist Party (APSP) lays out the demands of the African poor and working class; demands that white power has no interest in creating for African people.
Point Five of the Platform explains that “We believe that all black people are African people and are a part of a single national entity.
“We believe that the genuine freedom of African people everywhere is irreversibly linked to the creation of an independent, united, and socialist Africa.”
There is no greater identity to claim than to be an African Internationalist revolutionary and the FBI’s characterization of “Black Identity Extremists” is proof that we are on the right track to freeing our people from this blood-sucking system.
