The Uhuru Solidarity Movement (USM) toured the U.S. to hold the historic Days in Solidarity with African People events of October 2016!
We completed a seven-city tour across the U.S. to build white solidarity with Black Power and organize members of the white community to unite with the growing demand for reparations to African people.
DSAP 2016 commemorated the 40th anniversary of the founding of the African People’s Solidarity Committee (APSC) in 1976, a groundbreaking move by the African People’s Socialist Party (APSP) and its Chairman Omali Yeshitela.
Reparations to African people is the cornerstone of APSC’s work.
APSC is assigned to go into the white community to raise resources as material solidarity for the economic programs of Black Star Industries, the revolutionary foundation of a liberated African economy.
The Days in Solidarity raise the essential question for white people in these times: how do we resolve the relationship of white people to African people, one that has historically been soaked in the blood of slavery, genocide and colonialism?
It is a self-criticism from the white population that recognizes that every dream and aspiration of white people comes at the expense and in complicity with the oppression of African, Indigenous and oppressed peoples of the planet Earth.
The tour is building support for the International People’s Democratic Uhuru Movement’s (InPDUM) campaign for “Justice for the Three Drowned African Girls” and features Kundé Mwamvita, the mother of Dominique Battle, a 16-year-old who was murdered along with her two friends by the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Department on March 31st of this year.
DSAP tour spans from coast to coast
Chairman Omali Yeshitela, APSC Chairwoman Penny Hess and Kundé Mwamvita were the featured speakers at the kick-off DSAP event in St. Petersburg, Florida, the city where APSC was founded in 1976.
After a packed-house event that raised $8000, viewed by thousands of people online, Kitty Reilly of APSC gave a plaque in recognition of Chairwoman Hess for her 40 years of principled unity with African revolution and her profound leadership as Chair of APSC.
Chairwoman Penny presented a plaque to Chairman Omali for the founding of APSC, followed by a surprise birthday celebration for Chairman and Deputy Chair Ona Zené Yeshitela complete with chocolate cake, singing and salutes from Party members in Europe and Africa!
A week later, we hit the road to Huntsville, AL where USM organizer Kerry Porter and other comrades held a DSAP event at the Lowe Mill art studio.
The event was a great success, bringing together members of the white community, students, teachers and African workers to hear Penny, Kundé and APSP leaders Aisha Fields and Kobina Bantushango, as well as Shemica Williams, the mother of a 16-year-old African boy, Mustafa, who was brutally murdered by a white man.
Alabama DSAP raised resources for BSI, won members into USM and built support for the Huntsville-based Zenzele Consignment Shop, an economic institution of the All African People’s Development and Empowerment Project (AAPDEP).
Chairwoman Penny called for white people to “get on the forward side of history” and join the struggle in solidarity with Black Power.
Oakland event mobilizes for Uhuru Foods holiday pie campaign Top of Form
From Alabama, the tour moved onward to Oakland, CA for the third DSAP event that was held in the historic Uhuru House in east Oakland. The Uhuru House looked marvelous as a result of renovations conducted by the Office of Deputy Chair.
The Party has a rich history of struggle in Oakland, where Uhuru Furniture and Collectibles has also been operating for the past 30 years with a huge base of support in the Bay Area!
DSAP Oakland brought out new and longtime friends of the Party—Africans and North Americans—and volunteers from the Party’s economic institutions. Ngoyi Folayan, Party member and baker for Uhuru Foods & Pies, put out a mobilizing call to join the work of UFP and build Black Star Industries.
Chairman Omali Yeshitela gave a phenomenal presentation breaking down the entire history of the rise of the political economy of parasitic capitalism on the backs of enslaved African people and colonialism.
Based on his incredible vision of a socialist future for Africans and the rest of humanity, the participants in the room contributed $8,000 towards the BSI’s work to construct a dual power African workers’ economy in contention with the parasitic white power economy of capitalism.
Kundé Mwamvita passionately spoke on the struggle for justice for Dominique Battle. “They picked the wrong mother,” Kundé said. “I am coming for my justice by any means necessary.”
The other stops on the tour included San Diego, California; Gainesville, Florida; Boston, Massachusetts and Seattle, Washington.
