Black Power 96.3 FM radio station in St. Petersburg, Florida once again took the helm in fostering community engagement and empowerment through a series of dynamic events. Led by the indomitable spirit of Station Manager Eddie Maultsby Jr., the station continues its mission of amplifying voices and driving change within the Black community.
Station Supports Local Community
One highlight was the much-anticipated Pink Carpet Event, a glamorous affair that celebrated local talent and style and provided support to cancer survivors. Mr. Eddie was invited to speak, sharing the inspirational story of his mother’s battle with cancer. As participants strutted down the carpet adorned in their finest attire, the event served as a platform for artists, designers, and creatives to showcase their work and vision. Attendees were treated to a spectacle of style and innovation, with each step down the pink carpet embodying the vibrancy and resilience of the community.
Black Power 96 also participated in a business networking event at Childs Park where families and friends gathered to enjoy a day filled with music, games, and camaraderie. The Melanin Manifest minority-owned businesses networking event was sponsored by Brittany Varner, owner of Domestic Marketing Enterprises and A+ Medical Billing and Consulting, LLC, and Kersha Derr, owner of Bread of Heaven Outreach and Ministries. These two dynamic entrepreneurs aim to “promote equality and equity for minority individuals and businesses, promoting networking events to share information and resources.”
“We want to pool our efforts to create a voice for the voiceless, power for the powerless, and homes for the homeless,” said Brittany and Kersha. Following the event, they joined Black Power 96’s dynamic team of volunteers, helping with administration, promotions, and outreach. “We want to pay it forward!” said Brittany.
New Shows
This spring, Black Power 96 FM also introduced new shows to its lineup, further enriching its programming and outreach efforts. One such show is Jay Wooten and Checchi Alvarez’s “Who Got Next Radio?” This is a dynamic platform with origins as a weekly Open Mic in Gloucester City, NJ, where “Who Got Next Radio?” provided a safe space for indie artists to hone their craft, network, and receive peer feedback. Its legacy of resilience and inclusivity speaks volumes about its impact on nurturing grassroots talent. Further enhancing the station’s lineup are shows like The Devour Hour, with Barbaric Eric tantalizing listeners, and The Doctor Crabb Show, where listeners are treated to a blend of insightful commentary and banter.
Local Going Global Winner
Amidst the flurry of activity, the Local Going Global contest winner, All in Ben, soared to new heights with the anthem “Rob, Steal, or Kill.” All in Ben’s lyrics echo a powerful declaration of self-respect and determination: “I am going to move different, I ain’t robbing, ain’t killing, ain’t stealing, I ain’t doing none of that stuff.” These words encapsulate a commitment to integrity and positive action, resonating with audiences far and wide with themes of Black social justice and self-empowerment. The infectious beats and powerful lyrics of the song touch not only the local community but also listeners on a national and global scale, solidifying Black Power 96 FM’s commitment to showcasing emerging talent with a message.
A Beacon of Hope and Empowerment
Through its unwavering presence and active participation in community affairs, Black Power 96 FM continues to serve as a beacon of hope and empowerment for all. As we reflect on the myriad of events occurring as the weather warms, one thing remains clear: the station’s commitment to amplifying voices and fostering unity is paving the way for a brighter future.
