On Sunday, October 4th longtime supporter and member of the Uhuru Movement Comrade Selah Mnombatha passed away after a long struggle with cancer imposed on her by the harsh colonial conditions in Philadelphia.
Selah Mnobatha was a member of InPDUM for more than 10 years. During the 80s and 90s comrade Selah was always baking pies and veggie lasagna for fundraisers for the African People's Socialist Party (APSP) and InPDUM.
Selah was also usually the organizer of any childcare activities. Selah had been a pre school and primary school teacher for more than 20 years. Most of those were spent in independent African schools such as Harambee Institute, Marcus Garvey Shule, and Parham Chapel Day Care. She earned her Bachelor of the Arts degree in early childhood education, specializing in urban education.
Mama Selah was known to always open up her home to comrades from out of town, as recently as the 2009 InPDUM Convention. (Comrade Chioma Oruh, Chair of the North American Region of the African Socialist International.) Selah and her family were always proud to feed and shelter the working class leadership of APSP and InPDUM.
Despite her illness, comrade Selah was a strong supporter of the InPDUM campaign to defend the City Hall 2, one of whom was her husband Shabaka Mnombatha.
