For more than 30 years, Attorney Lynne Stewart fearlessly represented African, Arab and other oppressed people who resisted or were victimized by the U.S. imperial state. She took their cases to the colonial courts and most of the time she brilliantly defeated the U.S. terrorist government on its own turf.
Lynne, a longtime supporter of the Uhuru Movement and for justice for oppressed peoples, took her powerful stand without regard for the personal price that she would be forced to pay.
As a 72-year-old breast cancer patient, Lynne is currently locked down in a Texas federal medical center for “aiding and abetting her client,” Egyptian Sheik Omar Abdel Rahman, who was falsely convicted of charges relating to the World Trade Center bombing of 1993.
After the 2005 conviction of Lynne on charges of, among other things, “conspiring to providing and concealing material support for terrorist activity,” she was originally sentenced to 28 months in prison.
In 2010, Lynne was re-sentenced to ten years.
A June 28, 2012 U.S. federal appeals court decision upheld that ten year sentence, according to an article in Reuters, because of “serious crimes that she refused to acknowledge.”
The African People’s Solidarity Committee, the organization of white people working under the leadership of the African People’s Socialist Party that leads the worldwide Uhuru Movement for African liberation, expresses our unconditional support for Lynne Stewart and her courageous refusal to submit to the will of the U.S. government to repudiate the principled stand she has taken.
U.S. government the real terrorist
Let’s be clear that the U.S. government is the most brutal terrorist the world has ever known.
The United States—and capitalism itself—would not exist without the mass genocide of the Indigenous people, the theft of their land and resources throughout this hemisphere.
As APSP Chairman Omali Yeshitela shows, there would be no America without the enslavement of African people, the unspeakable crime against humanity that turned a whole continent of human beings into capitalism’s most lucrative commodity.
Today the U.S. and its European cronies are responsible for terrorism around the world.
The U.S. has bombed the people of Libya, backed the so-called rebels of Syria and murdered millions of people in Iraq, Afghanistan and throughout the Middle East.
The U.S. terrorists have built AFRICOM to maintain the colonial status quo that forces more than half the people of Africa to live on less than $2 a day on the continent with the greatest natural resources on the planet.
Through well-armed proxy forces, the U.S. carries out terrorism daily in the Congo, Sudan, Somalia and other places daily in the form of colonial rape, torture and murder to maintain control of oil, coltan, uranium, diamonds, gold and all the minerals necessary for the technology, electronics and lifestyle that this system—now in crisis—is fighting so hard to maintain.
Here in the U.S., a terroristic war is being waged against African, Indigenous, Arab and oppressed peoples who make up colonies inside these stolen borders.
A country with 2.5 million mostly poor and oppressed people in brutal gulags called prisons, with over 13 million people caught in the web of the prison and court system every year, is a terrorist country.
A system in which the George Zimmerman’s are routinely rewarded for shooting down the Trayvon Martin’s, where the wealth of white people is 22 times greater than African people, where 50 percent of black youth are unemployed—is a terrorist system.
As Martin Luther King stated in 1968, the U.S. is the greatest purveyor of violence in the world.
The right to “aid and abet” oppressed peoples around the world!
African, Arab and Indigenous peoples inside this country and around the world are resisting, by any means necessary.
They are fighting for their resources, their culture, their dignity, their land and their self-determination, struggling to wrest back what is rightfully theirs from the terrorist thief that has been violently stealing everything they’ve got for the past 500 years.
The African People’s Solidarity Committee unconditionally supports the right of African and oppressed peoples to resist. And we support the right of white people and other allies of African and oppressed people to aid, abet, support, give material solidarity to and uphold the resistance of anyone fighting imperialist oppression anywhere in the world.
Lynne Stewart is a hero.
She stood in solidarity with Arab and African people even as the government began intensifying its counterinsurgency against anyone who speaks the truth and fights for justice.
