On November 2 and 3, the Black is Back Coalition for Social Justice, Peace, and Reparations will convene its 10th Annual Conference in Washington, D.C.

The theme of this year’s mobilization is “Turn Imperialist Wars into Wars Against Imperialism”—a theme expressing opposition to the U.S. invasion of the Middle East, attacks on Venezuela, Cuba, and throughout South America, and acknowledging the underrecognized wars waged by the U.S., France, and others throughout Africa.

Since its founding 10 years ago on September 12, 2009, the Black is Back Coalition has sought to unite the black self-determination movement.

Comprised of 15 organizations and many individuals, the Black is Back Coalition for Social Justice, Peace and Reparations has fought for an end to every form of imperialist aggression against black people and the peoples of the world. This includes mass imprisonment, police murder, and the false borders imposed on Africa exploitation of peoples in the U.S. and around the world.

According to Omali Yeshitela, Chair and co-founder of the Coalition, “now is the time to throw off all hesitation, open up new fronts of struggle, and to launch every protest, demonstration and anti-imperialist action—from the ballot box to the barricades—as an act to deepen the crisis of imperialism.”

The weekend of events will convene on Friday with a pre-rally rally at Emergency Community Art Connection (ECAC).

Saturday’s events include a march and rally at Malcolm X and Lafayette Park and presentations from guest speakers and members of the BIB Steering Committee.

Sunday’s events include a conference with panel discussions at Thurgood Marshall Academy, featuring members of the BIB Steering committee—including Chairman Omali Yeshitela (African People’s Socialist Party), Vice Chair Lisa Davis (People’s Organization for Progress), co-founder Glen Ford (Black Agenda Report), and 2016 Green Party vice presidential nominee Ajamu Baraka (Black Alliance for Peace).

Other presenters include BIB Steering Committee members Ralph Poynter (Lynne Stewart Committee), Betty Davis (the New Abolitionist Movement), Zaki Baruti (Universal African People’s Organization), Khalid Raheen (New Afrikan Independence Party), Rev. Edward Pinkney (Black Autonomy Network Community Organization), Nellie Bailey (Harlem Fight Back Against the War at Home & Abroad) Kamm Howard (N’COBRA), Belinda Parker-Brown (Louisiana United International), Diop Olugbala (Black Community Control of the Police) and Jihad Abdulmumit (Jericho Movement).
