The Vision

I see
poison in everything, leeches sucking the blood of a right mind

I see
the simplicity of ignorance manifest into the difficulty of knowledge

I see
history repeating while the sleepy continue sleeping

I see
the comfort of today sacrifice itself for the freedom of tomorrow

I see
slave ships, shackles and dungeons etched into the skins of Africans

I see
light in everything, dna mapping what came before creating blueprints for the present

I see
marks on the heads of babies born into the world with the knowledge of ancestors

I see
small fists pushed in the air promising to deliver their own freedom

I see
past glories through aged eyes glistening with the future

I see
feet steady in the soil, backs bracing for blows and hands clenched around the neck of the beast in the necessary struggle

I see
naked and pure the will of the people

I see
You, Me, Us
