Comrade Chokwe Lumumba is dead at 66

JACKSON, MS—Chokwe Lumumba, one of the staunchest leaders in the African Liberation Movement inside U.S. borders has died at 66.

At the time of his passing, Chokwe was mayor of Jackson, Mississippi, and before that a City of Jackson Councilman. But before and during these forays into electoral politics, he was in the trenches with our people and with our movement.

For the past nearly five decades, Chokwe endured endless and vicious FBI and police attacks. These attacks occurred while a leader of the Republic of New Afrika, the Malcolm X Grassroots Movement and throughout his brief stint as Mayor of Jackson.

But despite the treachery of the State, Comrade Chokwe Lumumba never repudiated the Black Revolution.

His work as a lawyer for captured Black Liberation Army and Black Panther Party members, political prisoners and African prisoners in general was always steadfast and a major thrust of his work.

Since the 1970s Chokwe has joined the African People’s Socialist Party and Chairman Omali Yeshitela at numerous political events geared toward solving the problems of the African Revolution. He will be sorely missed.

At this writing we had just learned of Comrade Chokwe’s death and information was sketchy at best. The African People’s Socialist Party will do a more in-depth writing on his life and legacy when more information becomes available to us. So stay abreast at UhuruNews.com.

Long Live Chokwe Lumumba!!
