Uhuru Solidarity Movement National Convention gains momentum, draws national attention

The Annual National Convention of the Uhuru Solidarity Movement (USM) is now less than two weeks away! The USM is the organization of white people working under the leadership of the African People’s Socialist Party (APSP), organizing in white communities for “white reparations to African people.”

The two-day convention will be held at Akwaaba Hall in St. Petersburg, Florida on April 16 and 17, 2016. Titled “The Reparations Challenge: Build White Solidarity with Black Power,” the convention has drawn interest from radio stations and newspapers across the country from Miami, Florida to Portland, Oregon. USM organizers have been hitting the streets in St. Petersburg, Gainesville, Seattle and other places to spread the word about this historic two-day event!

The conference is not just a talk-fest, it is a call to action! USM will launch an international massive campaign to make the demand for corporations, banks and churches to pay reparations to Black Star Industries, the economic foundation of the African People’s Socialist Party with the mission of “building an independent African economy.”

On the morning of the first day, conference participants will be gathering on a street corner in St Pete, on 2nd Ave and 9th St. S, to commemorate John Evans, an African man lynched by a white mob in 1914.

The USM convention will define the role of white people in the Black Liberation struggle. How do white people as the oppressor nation take responsibility for the legacy of slavery, genocide and colonialism that all whites benefit from? How do we go beyond self-serving “unlearning racism” and actually play a role in ending colonialism, the system of economic and political oppression of Africans for the benefit of white society?

Guest speakers who will address these questions, include:

  • Omali Yeshitela, Chairman of the African People’s Socialist Party, founder of the Uhuru Movement, the keynote speaker at the USM convention;
  • Ona Zene Yeshitela, Deputy Chair of the African People’s Socialist Party, who will be speaking on the work of Black Star Industries and African political and economic self-determination;
  • Penny Hess, Chair of the African People’s Solidarity Committee, addressing the role and responsibility of white people in solidarity with Black Power and African revolution;
  • Herdosia Bentum, the St Louis-based President of the International People’s Democratic Uhuru Movement, on Black Community Control of the Police;
  • Gazi Kodzo, National Director of Recruitment and Membership for the African People’s Socialist Party, on why “Black Power Matters.”

The program will also feature dynamic, interactive organizing workshops:

  • Make “Reparations” a Household Word! How to build USM in your city…even if you’re the only member there!
  • Cyberwarfare for Reparations! Crush The Enemy in the War of Ideas!
  • Building the Days in Solidarity with African People! The Reparations Challenge!

USM’s national convention will be attended by people traveling from over 20 cities including Seattle, WA; Gainesville, FL; Huntsville, Alabama; San Diego and Menifee, CA; Louisville, KY; St. Louis, MO; San Tan Valley, AZ; Boston, MA and other locations!
