Grows the reach of African Internationalism
The month of May marked one year of The Burning Spear publishing African Internationalist news and analysis on Substack, the popular online network of writers, podcasters and video creators.
Publishing on Substack has expanded the audience for, and grown the influence of, the theoretical outlook of the African People’s Socialist Party (APSP), the only outlook projecting a positive future for the world’s peoples in the face of the deepening crisis of the worldwide colonial mode of production.
Since the launch of its newsletter on Substack in May of 2025, The Burning Spear has published over 150 articles, reporting on local, national and international events and providing our unique political analysis from the perspective of the colonized African working class.
The Burning Spear newsletter on Substack also distributes the weekly episode of the One Africa Worldview podcast, aired on Black Power 96.3 FM radio in St. Petersburg, Florida, hosted by Akile Anai, APSP Director of Agitation and Propaganda, along with Solyana Bekele, Managing Editor of The Burning Spear newspaper and Dr. Mariah Bond, Promotions Director for Black Power 96 radio.

At this writing, The Burning Spear Substack newsletter has acquired 1265 followers and 1094 subscribers spread across 39 U.S. states and 36 countries around the world. Subscribers receive posted articles directly in their email inboxes. A couple dozen subscribers have opted to become paying subscribers or founding members of The Burning Spear newspaper, donating monthly or yearly to support the work of The Burning Spear.
New content for paying subscribers
Beginning in May of 2026, The Burning Spear Substack newsletter is now posting a series of pamphlet-length articles accessible only to paying subscribers. The first of these was the revelatory story of APSP Chairman Omali Yeshitela’s personal and political formation, entitled “Why I became a revolutionary.”
Future paid content will include:
- “The Dialectics of Black Revolution and the Struggle to Defeat the Counterinsurgency in the U.S.”, Chairman Omali’s presentation during the 1991 Freedom Weekend in St. Petersburg, Florida
- “A political and economic critique of imperialism and imperialist opportunism,” by Chairman Omali Yeshitela, providing a thorough scientific explanation of the opportunism of the white left, first published in The Burning Spear newspaper in 1984 and reprinted in Chairman Omali’s groundbreaking book, “The Road to Socialism is Painted Black.”
- “The last speeches of Huey P. Newton,” delivered at the Uhuru House in Oakland, California in 1986 and 1988.
