Hearing today to decide if case against killer cop of Oury Jalloh continues!

On January 7, 2005, Oury Jalloh, a young African from Sierra Leone/Guinea, was violently detained by police terrorists in the city of Dessau, Germany and taken to a holding cell in the basement of the local police station.

Four hours later his body was found in a charcoaled state, the corpse chained at the hands and feet to a fireproof mattress. For seven years, the Initiative in Rememberance of Oury Jalloh (IROJ) has fought for truth, justice and indemnization.

Nevertheless, the State has responded with terrorism, repression, cover-up and systematic lies. After two of the involved police terrorists were acquitted in 2008, the Initiative in Remembrance of Oury Jalloh fought for an appeal, which started in January 2011, after the acquittal of the supervising police terrorist Andreas Schubert had been reversed prior to this.

The retrial has again been characterized by cover ups, lies and repression. Most recently when leading activists of the IROJ were brutally and systematically attacked and beaten by police terrorists at a peacefully-led march in memory of Oury Jalloh.

After more than a year of proceedings the County Court of Magdeburg on March 5, 2012 systematically short notice declared that the proceeding against Andreas Schubert shall be terminated in return of the payment of a fine.

The final decision regarding this depends on whether the public prosecutor's office (which is the same that was in charge during the first trial) and the defense agree to this offer. This seems highly likely.

The judge offering such a procedure means classifying Oury Jalloh's murder as a trifle, as it refers to paragraph 153a StGB, a paragraph that is usually used at the beginning of cases regarding theft in order to avoid long proceedings.

Moreover the practice of this paragraph officially closes the case of Oury Jalloh and eradicates any other possibility of taking legalized steps.

On March 6, 2012 the decision is to be made at the County Court of Magdeburg (address: Landgericht Magdeburg, Halberstädterstraße 8, room A 23). We call on everybody to be present and mobilize for this!
