St. Petersburg, Florida Uhuru House attacked

On Saturday, July 2, around 10am Eastern Time, someone attacked the Uhuru House in St. Petersburg, Florida, using a flame thrower to set fire to the large African flag that flies next to the building as a symbol of African self-determination and black power.

Members of our community intervened to stop the attack, which happened two days before what is characterized as independence day for the United States.

The African People’s Socialist Party recognizes this attack as part of the assault on the African Liberation Movement as the crisis of colonial capitalism deepens around the world.

The Uhuru Movement, led by the African People’s Socialist Party, is recognized around the world as the leadership in the struggle of colonized people to take back our land and resources.

That is why we are a target.

And that is why we must support institutions such as the Uhuru House, which is home to the Akwaaba Hall community event space, Uhuru Foods and the Uhuru Jiko commercial kitchen.

The Uhuru House also serves as a headquarters for The Burning Spear newspaper and Black Power 96 Radio, two critical media platforms for waging ideological war to recapture the brains in our community that are bombarded with U.S. colonial-capitalist propaganda every day. Black Power 96 Radio launches its July Fund Drive on July 3 and we call on everyone to support that, especially now, by going to BlackPower96.org/Donate.

Stay tuned for updates on this story.
