October 9 will be a date forever etched in the pages of history, as one where not one, but two African revolutionary leaders were born.
In this issue of The Burning Spear newspaper, we want to salute our leadership, Chairman Omali Yeshitela, who has dedicated over 60 years of his life to the struggle for African freedom, independence and the destruction of the colonial mode of production, on his 84th birthday.
Chairman Omali continues this fight as leader and founder of the African People’s Socialist Party (APSP), the advanced detachment of the African Revolution, the worldwide Uhuru Movement and author of the theory of African Internationalism. The world has forever been changed for the better because of his contributions to it.
And we cannot forget the APSP’s Deputy Chair, Ona Zené Yeshitela, born October 9, 1960, an African working class woman hailing from St. Petersburg, Florida, who came into the Uhuru Movement and began to immediately transform it with her brilliance, creativity and work ethic. She serves as the leader of the developing independent African socialist economy, negating the influence of the colonial mode of production through our Party’s dual power institutions.
They are two fierce fighters for African Liberation, united by the theory of African Internationalism. As materialists, we don’t often believe in coincidences, but in this case, we make a rare exception.
The Burning Spear declares October 9 as Yeshitela Day, to raise up two of Africa’s best sons and daughters, and to promote the example of African leadership worthy of emulation.
Happy revolutionary birthdays, Comrades!
