Northern region advances Party work in Baltimore
On the wispy and snowy weekend of December 13-14, comrades from throughout the Northern Region of the African People’s Socialist Party congregated in Baltimore, MD to conduct our two-day mini-intensive of study and practice. The first day consisted of deep theoretical study of African Internationalism, the founding theoretical doctrine of the Party; the “Political Aspects of Building a Mass Movement,” the tactics and strategies of building and maintaining a mass organization/Party-formation, Our Standards of Party Life, Combat Liberalism and more.
Regional Representative Nkululeko Sechaba kicked off the day with an invigorating overview of our responsibility to build the Party in the different cities we are located, whether it be D.C., Philly, or New York. As President of the African National Women’s Organization (ANWO) and the most experienced Party member in the region, Yejide Orunmila taught us the nuances of mass work, what it means to build and win the people to campaigns important to our communities.
To immediately put what we learned in practice, we hit the town. Led by Baltimore resident and Party member Comrade Brian, we conducted outreach at Lexington Market to sell The Spear and invite Africans in the community to an Uhuru Movement informational we had planned for day two. Along the way, we also stopped at various book stores like Red Emma’s and Greedy Reads, as potential Burning Spear newspaper carriers.
Day two consisted of more practical study around cadre development: how to be a more effective Party member, and how to talk to the African community about issues pertinent to their particular area. Built into the second day of our mini-intensive was also the Uhuru Movement informational where Party members who are representatives of different mass organizations, like the ANWO and the International People’s Democratic Uhuru Movement, gave short presentations to Africans in the community who attended.
With the positive reception of our movement and the much needed attention and reinforcement for the African community in Baltimore, the Northern Region of the APSP is working relentlessly to build a Baltimore unit, a strong Party presence, and a campaign that Africans can immediately join to forward the work of African self-determination.
Like any neglected and dilapidated African community in the U.S., Baltimore is yet another city in which the Uhuru Movement’s presence is required. Just like when the U.S. government bombed the MOVE organization in Philly in 1985, we must once again declare, “Reinforcements are on the way!”
The Party’s Midwest mobilizes for Party-building and economic power
The African People’s Socialist Party-USA Midwest Region, home to our Party’s headquarters in St. Louis, MO, conducted our first quarterly mini-intensive on November 22-23, 2025.
Comrades Maurice and Midwest Regional Representative Kabula Mutombo traveled from Chicago, IL to St. Louis to join their comrades in the Lou for a weekend of study and practice.
This mini-intensive took place during the height of Uhuru pie season, where after a long-fought battle with the city, Uhuru Bakery and Cafe was opened in time for the baking rush.
As Chairman Omali Yeshitela has long called for Africans working in our Party’s institutions, we joined with our comrades of the Office of the Deputy Chair to participate in the pie campaign.
On Saturday, we split off into teams: one group was sent out to a local Market to help sell the pies, sell The Burning Spear newspaper, distribute Black Power Blueprint flyers and prepare pie-tasting cups. Sister Carol, Jonathan and Kuumba were some of the other volunteers that made up this group.
Back at the Uhuru Bakery, we met another team of volunteers who helped to make and bake the pies. We saw in-person how suspicious it was that the city decided to block the road in three different directions leading up to the Uhuru Bakery. Lastly, we took part in phonebanking and texting the bakery’s contact list and reporting our results in the spreadsheet.
On Sunday, we held our weekly community rally with the theme, “Skills for Self-determination: Moving from Theory to Practice.”
Here, we used this as the venue for political education and training, where we discussed the Chairman’s call to build cadres, the importance of economic development and supporting the practical work of Uhuru Movement’s economic development institutions, which develops the independent African economy and involves local fundraising work. We also had a workshop led by Comrade Gregory, as well as security, which was led by Comrade Westbrook.
Through this intensive, we saw first hand that the political and economic are one. The Midwest is home to the Black Power Blueprint – the exploding program that is transforming the material conditions of African people, by building dual and contending economic power and capacity in the hands of the African working class.
We in the Midwest must deepen our commitment to build the Party, to advance and protect these institutions, and to win the masses of African people to participate in their own liberated, African economy, to negate the influence of colonial-capitalism over our lives.
Salute the Party’s Midwest Region!
Vanguard Up! Relentless!
