The African People’s Socialist Party will, on January 7-9, 2017, put revolution firmly back on the agenda for African people with our annual magnificent Plenary celebration to be held at our headquarters in the city of St. Petersburg, Florida!

Our Party members, members of our mass organizations and supporters from around the world will converge in St. Pete for this revolutionary celebration. 

The following is a transcribed speech which was made at the International People’s Democratic Uhuru Movement’s (InPDUM) Sunday Rally on July 7, 2016 by Chairman of the African People’s Socialist Party, Omali Yeshitela.

InPDUM St. Petersburg is engaged in a fierce struggle with the State to control the replacement art of an anti-African mural which was torn down from the wall of St. Petersburg City Hall by the Chairman in 1966, fifty years ago.

Here, Chairman Omali takes us through the important historical context which is important in understanding why the mural struggle is critical.

Thousands of black people will descend on the U.S. capital in Washington, D.C. on January 14, 2017, one day before the anniversary of the birth of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and six days before the inauguration of Donald Trump as the 45th president of the United States.

We will rally for self-determination and declare to the world that, despite the rise of Donald Trump and his version of white nationalism, Black is Back! And we have our own National Black Political Agenda for Self-determination that we will fight for regardless of which political party or individual occupies the White House.

The African People’s Socialist Party has never had any illusions about the ability of the electoral process to provide freedom, justice or progress for our people, especially the African working class population of the U.S. and the world.

 This is why we were prepared when Donald Trump became the 45th president of the United States in an upset victory over Hilary Clinton, the flag-bearer of the Democratic party of Barack Hussein Obama.

The Uhuru Movement, on behalf of the African community, has called for the Department of Justice Civil Rights Division to investigate the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office for the murder of black teenagers, cover-up of evidence that would indict the deputies, and a pattern of illegal stops, police chases, searches, and arrests which violate the 4th amendment rights of black residents.

The issue of names and naming is really powerful.

It’s so deep and profound, more than what most of us ever think about. Most of us don’t think about our names, where we come from, what our names mean, anything like that, which in and of itself is a problem. But we never think about that.

Names are really important because names connect you to a past, to your history. Names are not just things floating out there in the world, but if you want to even look back and see where you came from and dig into your roots, the name is fundamental. It comes from someplace.

Members and supporters of the African People’s Socialist Party (APSP) from around the world will converge on our headquarters in the city of St. Petersburg, Florida to participate in the Party’s Plenary from January 7-9, 2017.

The Party Plenary takes place yearly between our Congress, the highest body of the Party, which takes place every five years. The next Party Congress will be held in 2018.

We are opening up our Plenary to friends of our Party and urge you to join us at this critical time in the history of the Party and our struggle.
