We got the power! Uhuru Radio going FM down in Florida

We got it! Uhuru takes the FM airwaves!

ST. PETERSBURG, FL.–The African working class has long been denied access to the airwaves by white colonial conglomerates and liberal public media. Those days are over!

The Uhuru Movement acquired a permit from the U.S. Federal Communications Commission to build our own Black Power radio station broadcasting over the FM airwaves in St. Petersburg, Florida.

96.3 LPFM will stand tall as the only radio station owned and controlled by the African community in this southern U.S. city, where 70 percent of the population lives under the poverty level and faces terroristic violence at the hands of police and white vigilantes on a daily basis.

Colonial media lies

The white ruling class uses mass media to bombard and control the public consciousness, rewriting history and redefining reality.

Mass media leads people to believe that parasitic capitalism—built and maintained through brutal enslavement and the theft of human and material resources—is “the best possible system.” Mass media portrays the African community as pathologically criminal while eliciting empathy for white murderers and white child molesters.

Today over 90 percent of what is watched, heard or read is controlled by six giant corporations – Comcast, News Corp, Disney, Viacom, Time Warner and CBS. Clear Channel alone owns more than 1000 radio stations and 80 percent of the playlists in the U.S. are identical.

Those corporations steal African culture, remove its soul, mass produce it, sell it back to us and make billions. A part of the growing Uhuru Radio Network, broadcasting via the internet for nearly 10 years now, Black Power 96 will play real black music – from the streets of North America to the townships of Occupied Azania (South Africa).

Uhuru Radio fights back

Black Power 96, even more importantly, will be a powerful weapon in the war of ideas, delivering African Interntationalism directly into the homes and cars of Africans and our allies— the news and information necessary to organize and win freedom.

Uhuru Radio is a part of the media apparatus of the African People’s Socialist Party (APSP). Along with The Burning Spear newspaper, UhuruNews.com, Uhuru TV and a growing social media network, Uhuru Radio connects Africans throughout the world in order to build a united liberated Africa.

Radio has played a vital role in the liberation struggles of colonized peoples, from Algeria to Cuba to Zimbabwe to Nicaragua. Now, Black Power 96 joins the proud legacy of radio broadcasters who work to serve the revolutionary cause.

Support and build your future!

The Uhuru Movement’s new radio station is a critically important institution, not only for the Tampa Bay area, but for the entire African liberation struggle.

The construction and operation of this station will contribute to the economic self-sufficiency of the entire Uhuru Radio Network and position us to play a leading role in the growth of independent black media in the U.S. and throughout the world.

We need to raise $50,000 by December and are calling on all freedom-loving people to contribute. Go to uhurunews.com/donate today!

Black Power 96 is owned by the African People’s Education and Defense Fund (APEDF). Its main studio will be located at the Uhuru House at 1245 18th Av. S in St. Petersburg, FL and will serve as a hub for training and employing broadcast professionals.

The news industry in the U.S. today admits that 90 percent of newsroom supervisors, TV and radio news directors and TV and radio managers are white people. There’s no future for African journalists in white America. Join us to build our own media institutions!

Support Black Power 96!
