The Uhuru Movement congratulates Venezuela’s President Hugo Chavez on his victory in the recent election!

This was the fourth consecutive victory for the popular president, who has won the loyalty of the Venezuelan people through his bold and steadfast anti-imperialist leadership.

His Bolivarian socialist movement reflects the main trend in Latin America today: to resist imperialist domination, defend national dignity and build economic self-determination and political independence.

Since his first election in 1998, Chavez has implemented revolutionary programs that have empowered the impoverished majority of the former Spanish colony and debilitated the former ruling class that exploited and sold out the people and their resources.

His programs include nationalization of industries and resources, land reform, wealth redistribution and progressive social policies such as improved health, housing and education for the majority of the people.

A true internationalist, Chavez has fostered international cooperation through mutually beneficial trade agreements with other Latin American countries, and has even shared his country's oil wealth by providing free heating oil to poor people in the United States!
Several attempts to eliminate Chavez have been orchestrated by the U.S., including a 2002 coup which was reversed by the resistance of the masses of the Venezuelan people.

His resilience is rooted in the Venezuelan people's support for revolutionary change.

We congratulate the Venezuelan people on their victory!
Long live President Hugo Chavez!
Uhuru!
