The vision of Uhuru Foods & Pies includes the goal to control our own land, farms, trucking, baking, cooking and distribution of food.
Uhuru Pies Annual Campaign
Be part of the Uhuru Pies annual tradition in the Oakland/ San Francisco Bay Area and Florida! Volunteers bake and sell thousands of pies each fall holiday season, made from scratch with natural ingredients, to support the programs of the Uhuru Movement.
Take a Pie-cation! You’ve heard of a “volunteer vacation.” This is an opportunity to build and expand Uhuru Pies by joining us in one of our locations to help bake and sell Uhuru Pies.
Join the pie production in the Uhuru Jiko Community Commercial Kitchen in St. Petersgburg or at our shared kitchen in Oakland!
Go out to companies and organizations where we have Uhuru Pies tastings to give out samples and take orders.
Staff an Uhuru Pies pop-up table at grocery stores or markets, or make phone calls to pie buyers.
Come for several days or a week, anytime Nov. 7-26 or Dec. 12-24. Everyone is welcome! Call or email us to arrange to work with Uhuru Pies––the days just before the holidays are busiest.
There’s no better way to build the African Revolution than to contribute to our economic development.

Part of our vision of economic self-sufficiency and self-reliance for African people is building the African Independence Workforce Program (AIWP) designed to reverse the negative impact of prison on our entire community.
We will create opportunities for formerly incarcerated African men and women to receive training, gain employment and become stakeholders in a prosperous economy for our entire community.
Uhuru Jiko Community Commercial Kitchen – Oakland
The first step to launching this program is opening an Uhuru Jiko Community Commercial Kitchen in Oakland.
We opened our first Uhuru Jiko in the St. Petersburg, Florida Uhuru House in 2013. The kitchen is the home of Uhuru Foods & Pies and provides a resource to our community for those starting or operating a food business.
