Over 10 million Ukrainians have left Ukraine for the EU, Canada, U.S. and other colonial white countries where they are welcomed with open arms. There are special desks at airports to help Ukrainians arriving in Western Europe.
The United Nations high commissioner for refugees (UNHCR) records 8,087,952 refugees from Ukraine across Europe as of February 21, 2023. This amount is almost equal to the entire population of London, which is 8.982 million people.
So we have a situation where about 20 percent of the Ukrainian population is out of Ukraine. The anti-immigrant Europe with all its anti-black people laws is open for Ukrainians. This is a fundamental fraud that informs parts of the rise of African international consciousness in Europe and around the world.
Town halls and various government institutions have raised the Ukrainian flag on top of their buildings alongside EU and the relevant national flags. This is in sharp contrast with the treatment that the immigration of colonized peoples receive in Europe or in the U.S. Anti-immigration laws often determine the outcome of elections contested in most white colonial countries, particularly in Europe.
U.S. corporations lead white colonial solidarity with Ukraine through the NAM
U.S. corporations are leading the white colonial solidarity with Ukraine through the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM).
Africans need to be aware that the companies that oppress and exploit us are the same ones funding the relief effort for Ukrainians.
Below are some concrete examples of the U.S. bourgeoisie’s support to Ukraine in addition to the well-known U.S. military interference in Ukraine. It is the same U.S. bourgeoisie that attacks Chairman Omali and the Uhuru Movement for having any relationship to Russians in solidarity with black people’s struggle for freedom.
As part of NAM, Microsoft is giving free-of-charge support of approximately $100 million for Ukraine throughout the calendar year 2023. This will bring Microsoft’s support to Ukraine to above $400 million since February 2022.
Boeing, one of the largest military aircraft companies, allocated $2 million to efforts in Ukraine. General Electric donated $4.5 million to Ukraine.
The Coca-Cola Company, along with the Coca-Cola Foundation, allocated 4.7 million euros to Ukraine.
We have seen worldwide white mobilization and popular solidarity from all sectors of the colonizers. Various governments have called on white citizens to open their private homes to assist Ukrainians.
The countries of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) are doing everything in their power to end the right of colonized peoples to claim asylum as stipulated by the 1948 Geneva Conventions. It is nearly impossible for poor and colonized working peoples in Africa, South America and elsewhere to be granted visas by the colonizers’ embassies.
In response to the war in Ukraine and in unconditional support to Ukrainians fleeing the war, on March 4, 2022, the EU activated the temporary protection directive. Its stated objective is to ease the pressure on national asylum systems and to allow displaced persons to enjoy harmonized rights throughout the EU. This includes residence, access to the labor market and housing, medical assistance, social assistance and access to education for children.
This temporary protection directive is a collective protection that applies to all Ukrainians coming to the EU. They are being treated as white colonial citizens throughout the EU.
The above clause was not used as millions of Syrians and Afghans were fleeing the U.S.-imposed colonial wars on their countries. In fact, the Law and Justice Party, the current white nationalist organization in power in Poland, closed all borders to stop Syrians and other colonized peoples from coming through their borders.
White celebrities are united in support for a colonial Ukraine
White celebrities—both those who never make political statements and those who do—are all united in their support for a colonial Ukraine.
According to The Washington Post, David Beckham is a good example of a white celebrity who promotes the image of an apolitical personality, and he made his Instagram account available for a Ukrainian doctor to use for a few days:
“Soccer legend David Beckham handed over control of his Instagram account—and its 71.5 million followers—on Sunday to a Ukrainian doctor caring for pregnant women and their babies in the war-torn city of Kharkiv.”
Beckham is also a UNICEF ambassador for Western colonialism, which gives him a cover as some sort of a benevolent humanitarian, but he never lent his account for the benefit of colonized refugees on the planet.
Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher raised $36,000,000 through a GoFundMe fundraiser surpassing their goal of $6 million.
According to Eu.app.com, a bunch of colonial and neocolonial artists including Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Wonder and Madonna agreed to join celebrities standing with Ukraine in the Global Citizen refugee campaign. We can give countless similar examples.
African immigrants condemned to death or imprisonment in contrast
African immigrants traveling to Europe are condemned to death in the sea, and those who survive the sea are condemned to prisons upon their arrival on Europe’s shores.
In 2022 alone, according to statista.com, “it was estimated that 2,062 migrants died while crossing the Mediterranean Sea.” That is 171 deaths per month.
There is no outcry to demand solidarity for those colonized Africans, Afghans, Syrians, etc. who are trying to escape colonialism imposed on their homelands. The website makes a point that “the accurate number of deaths recorded in the Mediterranean Sea cannot be ascertained. Between 2014 and 2018, for instance, about 12 thousand people who drowned were never found.” That is about 250 people who died whose bodies are not even recovered every month.
The UK government is planning to send some asylum seekers to Rwanda in boats. They are not planning to send any Ukrainians to Rwanda, though. Only colonized peoples.
Just the idea of making a determination that Paul Kagame’s Rwanda is a safe country for refugees defies human reasons. Rwanda is not safe for the majority of the peoples who live there, Tutsi and Hutu alike.
If Rwanda was a safe country, Kagame would not be president for a second. The oppressed majority of Africans will never elect someone who has organized the killing of Africans on an industrial scale in Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
We must demand everywhere, Hands Off Uhuru! Hands Off Africa!
We have to build the greatest unity ever seen between Africans across the globe to accelerate our struggle for the unification and liberation of our dispersed nation. We must build a liberated Africa that would make it unnecessary for Africans to flee our own resource rich lands to chase our resources to these colonial white power centers.
Hands Off Uhuru!
Hands Off Africa!
