A young African man was attacked by the police as he walked down the sidewalk of 16th Street South––not far from where TyRon Lewis was murdered in 1997––with his niece on the evening of February 23, 2017. 

Jesse Nevel announced his candidacy for Mayor of the City of St. Petersburg, Florida on March 8th, 2017.

The 27-year-old is best known for his work as the National Chair of the Uhuru Solidarity Movement (USM), the organization of white people working under the leadership of the African People’s Socialist Party (APSP), organizing for reparations to the black community.

Civil Rights Movement leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated by the U.S. government on April 4, 1968. He was 39 years old when he was gunned down on the balcony of the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, TN.

April 4, 2017 marks the 49th anniversary of MLK’s assassination.

King’s death was the result of the U.S. federal government’s counterinsurgency program which targeted black political leaders of the 60s with the purpose to destroy the Black Liberation Movement.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL––Eritha “Akilé” Cainion Cainion threw her hat into the race to become the next councilperson for District 6 in St. Pete on Monday, March 6, 2017. The 22-year-old African woman made the announcement during a press conference held in front of the recently shutdown Walmart with her proud parents and a group of enthusiastic supporters.

Eritha’s participation in the local white ruling class electoral process of St. Pete is different from any other election in recent U.S. history due to her committed relationship and work within revolutionary organizations.

PHILADELPHIA-The Black Is Back Coalition’s Black Community Control of Police working group attended a demonstration organized by Black Lives Matter, PA centered on the demand for the resignation of district attorney Seth Williams on March 27, 2017.  

The Black is Back Coalition (BIBC) is clear that it is not enough to only call for Williams’ removal. Williams must go to jail for malicious prosecution and participation in selling prisoners for profit.

Ever since I came into adulthood, I have always understood my oppression as a non-white woman, gender non-conforming and same-gender-loving person, among other marginalized, intersecting identities. However, this understanding was steeped in liberal ideology; my understanding was initially informed by a white, colonial narrative.

HOUSTON—After weeks of preparation, on March 4, a major planting of seeds and transplant vegetables went under way at the AAPDEP 5th Ward Community Garden. This marked the 8th consecutive year since the garden here in Houston’s Fifth Ward was planted.

Throughout the month of March, feminists celebrate ‘International Women’s History Month’ but fail miserably to mention some of the major issues facing African women. The ‘achievements’ of white women, along with petty bourgeois Negro women, are held in high regard, while ignoring the fact that most of these so-called achievements are made at the expense of poor and working class African women.

The question of the relationship and role of white people in history and in the struggle for socialism and African liberation is one that has long plagued our movement. 

African people have a bloody history with the white population. White people have historically functioned as arms of the oppressive colonial state against us, motivated to do so by the reward of colonial booty, elevated social relevance and a putrid ideology arising from a vicious social system based on genocide, slavery and colonialism.

White people have created in the African world conflicting responses that run the gamut of hatred, awe, fear, servile obedience, permanent suspicion and unrelenting resistance.
