On Friday, May 29, 2020, three days into militant protests that have rocked the foundation of the colonialist capitalAPSPuhuru.orgist world, African People’s Socialist Party Chairman Omali Yeshitela broadcast this message, which has been slightly edited here and which can be found in its original video version on the Burning Spear TV channel on YouTube:

We, the African People’s Socialist Party (APSP), led by Chairman Omali Yeshitela, denounce yet another brutal police murder of an African man, George Floyd in Minneapolis. In response our Party is holding an international mobilization in support of African people to resist the colonial State and to fight for power over our lives.

The COVID-19 disease is wreaking havoc on African, Mexican and Indigenous communities. The U.S. government is bailing out Wall Street banks with trillions of dollars. New York, home to the center of white world capitalism, has reported more COVID-19 deaths than 97 percent of all the world’s countries.

As of May 8, there have been 4,929 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in San Diego County and 165 deaths. The death rate of 3.3 percent, San Diego County’s COVID-19 death rate is 55 percent of the U.S. national average. Tijuana, the Baja California city across the false border, comparatively has 1,136 verified cases—77 percent fewer cases than San Diego—but 226 deaths!

COVID-19 is not a medical problem; it is a political problem. Its origins must be put in the context of what’s happening in the world today and who stands to profit from this deadly form of biological warfare. 

“Once I got my unemployment check, the first thing I did was donate to Uhuru Furniture. It’s so much more than a store! It is building the rising liberated economy in the hands of the African community.  Everyone has a stake in this institution continuing to thrive!” This was the comment by Cota after she contributed to the Uhuru Furniture GoFundMe site at UhuruFurniture.org.

It is time to demand reparations from the parasites, thieves and bloodsuckers who are fattening their bellies off the COVID-19 crisis while Africans and Indigenous people are dying at genocidal rates.

The lockdown imposed by the South African government on the people as a response to the global Coronavirus pandemic has proven to be worsening our colonial misery as the African working class, more specifically for us as women.
