HOUSTON—Organizers of the All African People’s Development and Empowerment Project (AAPDEP) were informed by the landowners of the piece of land where the AAPDEP 5th Ward Community Garden sits of their need to sell the property in April 2017.

Many have wondered out loud, “What would El Hajj Malik El-Shabazz (Malcolm X) be doing at 92 years of age?” Our Black Shining Prince was born on May 19th, 1925 and joined the ancestors on February 21, 1925. Before his passing, Africans in Nigeria gave him the name Omowale. In Yoruba it means “child has come home.”

Donald Trump, the billionaire U.S. president, who during his campaign said that regime change in Syria would not be his top priority and called for cooperation with Russia to fight ISIS/AL Qaida and associated “Islamist Jihadists” groups, stunned the world by launching an unprovoked attack of 59 tomahawk missiles against Syria’s Shayrat military air base in April 2017.

I have seen my fair share of sell-out politicians try to sell their lies to the black community to get our votes. So when two honest and committed comrades who I know and have worked with for years told me they were entering the electoral arena, I was ecstatic.

These are the words of the great Muhammad Ali following his super upset victory over Sonny Liston in Miami Beach, Florida on February 25, 1964. On that day Ali also declared, “I am the Greatest!”

This great son of Africa passed away on June 3, 2016 following a 30-year bout with a form of Parkinson’s Disease. Ali was 74 years old. Funeral services will be in his birth place of Louisville, Kentucky on Friday June 10.
