Gym of Our Own is a Hospital of Our Own

The TyRon Lewis Community Gym, named after an 18 year old African who was shot and killed by St. Petersburg Police on October 26 1996, has long stood in defense of the human and civil rights of the African community in St. Pete.

We have no greater right than that which is stated in point #1 of the African Peoples Socialist Party’s 14 Point Platform, "We want peace, dignity and the right to build a prosperous life through our own labor and in our own interests."

Members of the APEDF often say that the TyRon Lewis Gym is the ONLY significant medical facility in the African community of St. Petersburg.  Compared to hospitals which prescribe drugs instead of cures, the gym truly is saving lives.

Studies have shown that stress can lead to multiple health problems, including hypertension and cancer.   Studies have also shown that exercise is a stress reliever.

Exercising regularly, in general, strengthens the immune system.

The TyRon Lewis Community Gym and its upcoming Health Fair is a beacon of truth and strength, in a world in which it is increasingly difficult to reproduce African life, whether due to police brutality or inadequate health care resources.

See you at the Health Fair!
