50,000 line up for financial assistance in Detroit

While the bankers and politicians are lining their pockets with trillions of dollars of bailouts and stimulus money from taxpayers’ money, African people in this country are catching unmitigated hell in the current economic crisis.

A video of Detroit on October 7 proves this clearly.

When the city used $15 million of federal stimulus money to hand out to Detroit residents through the city’s Homeless Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program there were enough funds to aid 3,400 people.

But 50,000 people stood in line for financial assistance on October 7, in addition to 30,000 who had already applied for the aid in the days prior to that.

The crowd was 95 percent African, spanning more than 15 city blocks. African people, jobless, losing their homes and facing desperate poverty were seeking what seemed to be temporary relief for their basic needs.

In fact most of those in line did not quality for the aid, because the money was only a one-time assistance to pay utility bills for those who are already homeless, or facing pending evictions or foreclosures.

None of this Obama administration stimulus money was allowed to go to mortgage payments and only those who had the ability to keep paying their mortgage after receiving the aid would qualify.

Detroit’s population is 81 percent African. The official unemployment rate is 29 percent but the real jobless rate is at least double that as tens of thousands have already given up looking for work.

This is why African people need the Revolutionary National Democratic Program to take power into our own hands to control our lives and our destinies.

African people everywhere need to come together to liberate and reunite Africa and all its resources for our benefit.

America was built on the enslavement of African people and the genocide of the Indigenous people.

Our only solution to the economic crisis of imperialism self-determination to create our own destiny with our own resources and to overturn this blood-sucking system that has gotten rich at our expense for 400 years.
